10 – 14 July

A delegation of the Curia of Hungary, headed by its President, Mr. Peter Darak, made an official visit to the Russian Federation.

During the visit the delegates met with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Lebedev, Director-General of the Judicial Department at the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Alexander Gusev and Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika.

During their stay in Saint-Petersburg, the delegation members met and discussed different issues with Valery Zorkin, President of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation, and senior judges of Saint-Petersburg City Court.

In conclusion of the visit the head of the delegation expressed his sincere gratitude and hope for the further development of professional ties.

4 – 8 September

The eleventh session of the Advisory Committee on Enforcement was held in Geneva’s HQ of the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Justice Vyacheslav Gorshkov, head of a panel of judges of the Judicial Chamber for Civil Cases, participated in the session and presented a report about the experience of Russian courts in the sphere of IPR enforcement.

19 – 23 September

A delegation of the Supreme Court of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, made an official visit to Moscow and Saint-Petersburg upon the invitation of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

During their stay, the delegates had meetings with First Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Pyotr Serkov, President of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation Valery Zorkin, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika, President of Moscow Region Court Vasily Voloshin and President of Saint-Petersburg City Court Valentina Yepifanova.

In conclusion, the parties recognised the visit as exceptionally important and useful for the development and strengthening of bilateral ties between the top judicial instances of Russia and Bangladesh.

21-22 September

The 11th Meeting of Chief Justices of Supreme Courts of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation took place in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan.

During the event, the participants discussed the prospects of further development of cooperation among the courts of the SCO countries, stressing the importance of continued improvement of justice for the better protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms. Among other issues, the delegates discussed the responsibility of parents for upbringing of children in the legislation of SCO countries, exchanged judicial experience of consideration of cases regarding terrorism and extremism and of review of effective court decisions due to new or newly established facts.

The Russian delegation was headed by Chief Justice Vyacheslav Lebedev.

27 September

Pyotr Serkov, First Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, met with a delegation of the Judicial Academy under the Supreme People’s Court of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, headed by its principal, Nguyen Duc Binh. The delegation was on a study visit to Russia upon the invitation of the Russian State University of Justice.

13 – 14 October

The Hungarian National Office for the Judiciary organised its Annual European Conference on Courts and Communication in Budapest.

The highlights of the conference included the practice of press rectification, as well as strengthening public relations at courts and protection of the court system against attacks of the media.

The conference was attended by Justice Vyacheslav Gorshkov, head of a panel of judges of the Judicial Chamber for Civil Cases.

16 – 20 October

Upon the joint invitation of the UNHCR European Office and the Council of Europe, Supreme Court Justice Sergey Astashov visited Strasbourg, France, as a member of a group of Russian judges in order to learn about the structure and procedures of the Council of Europe and study the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights.

19 October

Pyotr Serkov, First Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, met with a delegation of the Internal and Judicial Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, headed by Vice-Chairman Wang Shengming. The delegation was visiting Russia upon the invitation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

15 – 22 November

Pyotr Serkov, First Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, and Sergey Kryukov, Head of the Supreme Court’s IT Department, visited the People’s Republic of China (Wuzhen, Hanzhou, Shanghai, Beijing) in order to participate in the “Smart Court” Forum during the Third World Internet Conference and study implementation of IT in Chinese courts.

23 – 25 November

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a seminar for judges of specialized economic courts in Astana. The event titled “Resolving Bankruptcy Issues in Kazakhstan” was held due to recent legislation changes and the need to study the problems of judicial practice.

Irina Bukina, Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, took part in the seminar as an international expert and reported about the experience of Russian courts in resolving personal bankruptcy issues.

4 – 6 December

Tatiana Vavilycheva, Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, participated in a seminar “International Case-Law in Bioethics: Insight and Foresight”, held by the Council of Europe Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law in Strasbourg. Justice Vavilycheva presented a report about the development trends of the Russian case-law in the sphere of human rights and biomedicine.

6 – 7 December

Guido Raimondi, President of the European Court of Human Rights, made an official visit to Russia upon the invitation of Vyacheslav Lebedev, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

During the visit, President Raimondi also had meetings with the Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika and President of the Constitutional Court Valery Zorkin.

President Raimondi attended the 9th All-Russia Congress of Judges as a guest of honour.

7 December

The 13th Meeting of the Council of Chief Justices of Supreme Commercial, Economic and Other Courts Resolving Disputes in the Sphere of Economics took place in Moscow.

The Chief Justices discussed issues of reorganisation of the Council, the concept of a unified procedural code for the consideration of civil and economic cases, the judicial practice regarding mutual enforcement of court decisions in economic cases, issues of court-enforced liquidation of legal entities.

A number of decisions was adopted as a result of the meeting.
