Born on 14 August 1943 in Moscow.
Graduated from the Law Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1968.
Since 1969 – employment at a human resources section of a department of the Ministry of Industrial Construction of the USSR in Moscow.
Since 1970 – people’s judge at the people’s district court for Leningradskiy district in Moscow.
Since 1977 – president of the people’s district court for Zheleznodorozhniy district in Moscow.
Since 1984 – deputy president of Moscow City Court.
Since 1986 – president of Moscow City Court.
July 1989 – first appointment as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
Chief Justice Lebedev is a Full Cavalier of the state order “For Services to the Fatherland”. He has been decorated with multiple governmental and state awards.
He was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevskiy in 2012 and the Medal of Pyotr Stolypin, 1st degree, in March 2013.
